THE PASON DIRECTIONAL SYSTEM

The Pason Directional System is a cost-reduction solution for directional drilling companies. Using existing Pason infrastructure, this software-based product transmits directional drilling information, and provides remote access to the data in real-time. This system reduces overall service costs and increases employee safety by minimizing the number of workers required at the rigsite.

This system enables a directional driller to monitor and manage multiple wells, using a suite of tools to communicate with the driller on the rig floor and in the doghouse. This system replaces existing Measurement While Drilling (MWD) surface systems by decoding their mud pulse tools using Pason's pressure sensor, and works in conjunction with the Pason Electronic Drilling Recorder (EDR). The Directional System decodes mud pulse data and displays toolface, survey, gamma, and diagnostic information on the rosebud using a variety of computers, and the Pason SideKick. It helps directional drillers, drillers, and MWD technicians work together to drill directional wells.

USE THE DIRECTIONAL SYSTEM TO:

View real-time directional information

  • View the rosebud and communicate using the Directional Doghouse Computer (DHC) which is dedicated for these tasks
  • Use the Pason SideKick to view the rosebud on the rig floor
  • View the Directional system from any onsite Pason workstation
  • Use the Pason DataHub to remotely access the system wherever there is an Internet connection

TAKE AND TRACK SURVEYS

  • Have the driller follow the Survey Wizard’s concise instructions to minimize survey time (the directional driller doesn’t need to be involved) and enhance survey quality (no manual entry is required)
  • Populate survey lists and plot horizontal / vertical graphs automatically

COMMUNICATE WITH THE DRILLER

  • Send drilling instructions to the DHC and SideKick on the rig floor
  • Notify the driller with an audible alert when a new drilling instruction is sent
  • Have the driller acknowledge instructions to confirm information transfer
  • Use the built-in chat system to send messages to the driller or any other system user
  • Log instructions and edit them as needed in a slide sheet

TRANSFER CONTROL FOR SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Use the control mechanism to ensure that one user, remote or onsite, is responsible for operations
  • Transfer control to the MWD technician so the system can be confi gured to work with the downhole tool
  • Transfer control to the directional driller so instructions can be sent to the driller

IMPROVE WELL PLANNING

  • Import well plans from the Pason DataHub
  • Compare the planned well path with the actual well path
