Our Pasonites are constantly finding creative ways to keep up our great culture at our Calgary office. Years ago, an annual Ping Pong tournament was organized to sharpen our table tennis skills, bringing Pasonites together while experiencing a little lighthearted competition.

24 employees participated in the tournament, playing throughout June and competing to win bragging rights and the privilege of displaying our prestigious Championship Belt on their desk for the year!

Over the years, the tournament has fallen by the wayside. However, this year, a group of enthusiastic Pasonites decided that 2024 was the perfect year to revive it! Introducing the Pason Ping Pong Classic, presented by Pason's interns.

Hardware Intern Cole spearheaded the tournament. Cole organized its format with the help of other Pason interns and our Facilities, Communications, and HR teams. When Cole's internship ends, he will pass the torch to another intern to keep the annual tradition alive.

"Early on in my internship, Eric, Facilities Support, had shown me the trophy from the previous tournament renditions and had mentioned that he thought there would be an opportunity to get it going again," Cole said.

"I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring Pasonites together over some friendly competition right here in the office, so we decided to start things up again! I think this tournament does a great job representing the great culture of Pason that I have had a chance to be a part of during my time here."

In total, 24 employees participated in the tournament, playing throughout June and competing to win bragging rights and the privilege of displaying our prestigious Championship Belt on their desk for the year! Our Graphic Designer, Doug, designed the belt, complete with bejewelled gold plates.

Starting with a Round Robin format, all 24 participants were grouped and played one best-of-3 match. Following the Round Robin, 12 players advanced to the First Round, with four receiving a bye to the Elite Eight based on how the Round Robin went.

The Elite Eight was the second last round, where the winners advanced to the Final Four.

After a month of fierce competition, the final four competitors duked it out for the Pason Ping Pong Champion title! We held the event over lunch on July 3, 2024, where Pasonites could come, watch, and socialize!

"The highlight of the tournament was the Final Four matches," Cole said. "There was some incredibly close competition that was a great watch throughout, including the final match."

It's always amazing to see Pasonites come together for a Ping Pong tournament or even just a friendly game over lunch. Congrats to everyone who participated in the Pason Ping Pong Classic, presented by Pason’s interns!
